The Orphan’s Visit : Dar Al Aytam

It was a very blessed event organized by our committee to pay a visit to orphans center “Dar Al Aytam”. The visit was so fruitful and full of fun and cheerful activities. The games ranged from drawing on the faces of children, pasting cottons on the Sheep’s of Eid Al adha, and so several fun and amusement. After that, we and the children enjoyed cutting the cake and giving them gifts. It was a joyful visit that left a nice smile on every child’s face and wonderful contentment in our hearts.

Aids Day Awareness Campaign 2011

On the International SIDA Day the First of December, students in the Faculty of Medicine at Beirut Arab University organized an awareness campaign about the SIDA disease. Miss Lebanon, Yara Khouri Mickael participated in the event.

In rooms specially designed to mock conditions under which people get infected with SIDA, students explained all about delinquency, the health conditions of the SIDA patient, clinical and psychological therapies and treatments, the importance of continuous follow-up with specialists, and the importance of conscious awareness after the infection, and concluded with guidance instructions on how uninfected people can avoid this disease.

 After that, Miss Lebanon gave a speech. She drew the attention to the importance of awareness campaigns and announced her support to the students in their campaign. Later on, Professor Mohammad Khodr, the dean of Faculty of medicine, gave Miss Lebanon the Appreciation Shield after which she toured the place and praised the efforts made to accomplish it.

On SIDA Day, in the frame of Awareness Day, one patient talked about his experience with SIDA and the circumstances and difficulties he has been facing continuously. He emphasized on the importance of prevention measures to avoid being infected with the disease. He also stressed on the importance of social support for people infected by SIDA.

Doctors on The Strings of Hearts

For the fourth year in a row, the Faculty of Medicine at Beirut Arab University, Beirut campus, organized an Artistic and Cultural Night on December 21st, 2011 under the title “Doctors on the Strings of Hearts” where George Khabbaz met in his Art with Talal Haidar in his poetry.

In this Night, some students read their own poems written in Arabic or English; some others presented their paintings and photographs; and some others sang or played music that projected the Lebanese heritage.

Talal Haidar emphasized that medicine is closest to Arts because “it explores the depth of Human body to reach the soul”. He also expressed “pleasure to be present in the educational edifice of BAU and envied BAU students for the freedom they are given and the close relationship that bounds them with their instructors, the thing that he missed while in Europe”.

 On the other hand, the artist George Khabbaz recited a satirical poem that summed up the situation in Lebanon till the present time and at the closing invited students to make Lebanon their main target.

 On his part, Professor Mohammad Khodr, the Dean of Faculty of Medicine, emphasized that “the event will be repeated annually for the purpose of revealing the poetic and cultural potentials of the future doctors”.

Professor Amr Galal El-Adawi, President of BAU, and Professor Khodr gave each of the guests an honorary shield in appreciation for and recognition of their great accomplishments.
